Plagiarism – how not to …

Very interesting lesson given by Ms. Busuttil Gili to our year 10 and 11.

Many of you parents will wish they had seen this in college (university!)

https://web.microsoftstream.com/video/0f2fbb11-34c1-409f-b0cc-61a93878f4bd

Almost all boys from years 10 and 11 attended this presentation which took place after college hours. Those who missed it asked and received a recording.

We can be proud that, our boys, your children, are taking charge of their own learning.

School Development Plan – your input.

We have a lot of data and ideas for the continued development and implementation of our School Development Plan, (SDP). One VERY IMPORTANT aspect is feedback from all our different stakeholders.

This is your opportunity to be involved in the formation of the SDP. With information and input from all we will start the process of discussion and debate in which you will have the opportunity to be involved.. You completing this questionnaire is part of the initial phase.

You are invited you to complete the following by Tuesday, January 19th, 2021.
SEC Parental Questionnaire 2021
If you have a child in more than one section of the school we would be very grateful if you could complete a separate questionnaire for each, particularly if your responses are likely to be significantly different.
Fill out form

Parents, please know that a second questionnaire only applies if you have children in different sections of the school and want to make significantly different responses.

Mid-Year Assessments

MATSEC examinations are changing their format from purely examination to a mixture of tasks and examination. Both marks are then combined to give the overall grade. This shift was supposed to be in place for this year, 2021 but mainly due to COVID has been delayed until next year.

For the upcoming Mid-Year examinations we will allow our teachers to perfect both the marking and setting of these tasks.  Allowing us to see possible pitfalls and problems in our procedures without the pressure of external examiners or examinations.

It will also give you a chance to see the change in practice.

The removal of a full-blown exam period helps us maximise our teaching time which in this year more than most is extremely valuable. This will hopefully also have the added benefit of reducing stress on students during this difficult time.

We will timetable the tests so that students do not have too many on a single day.

Year 6, 11 & 13

Will be having their ‘mocks’ as per in the past. This allows for important practice and the opportunity to receive valuable feedback gauging their current ability. These mock exams will mirror the final exams, Benchmarking, MATSEC and IBDP, in terms of length, format, scheduling and standard as much as is possible.

Year 6 will be having tests and tasks in the other subjects which are not benchmark subjects.

Year 7-10 & 12

Will be assessed as in previous years through Formative and Summative methods.

This is broken down into 20% formative assessment which can be assessed on a collection of work or a dedicated task.

These dedicated tasks will focus on the application of learning and resemble the tasks proposed in the Learning outcomes Framework (y7-10) or the Internal Assessments tasks (y12). This is done so that students can gain valuable insight and also develop the necessary skills in these areas that will form part of their assessments moving forward.

The 80% summative part will be assessed via an in-class test.

Year 4 and 5.

Tasks to be complete by students by 1st February.

Tests will be scheduled during from February 2nd to 12th, as per the exam period on the school calendar.

Junior school will be weighted 70% for the test and 30% for Classwork/Homework/Task

Online students. (Honesty and Character)

Online students are expected to complete tests in a similar timeframe. The test will be sent to them at the start of the test period. Students then return their work at the end of the test period.

On the report card (MySchool) if the student was studying online this will be noted.
