Headmaster's Message

Tuesday 8 June 2020
Dear Community Members,
As a community we have come a long way in a very short space of time. You could argue that the world has again learned that we are all connected much closer that we might have realised. Or perhaps we simply forgot that we are all part of society?
What we are going through now is not solely as students, nor as parents, nor as SEC staff, but as a group. As with all groups the behaviour of one part or one individual in the group will have an impact on the others. There have been instances over the past months where we have felt overwhelmed but I am hearing so many cases of parents, teachers and students helping one another out, suggestions, shared challenges and perhaps the most underrated aspect – being at the end of a phone line and listening. Empathy and old fashioned kindness!
The formal end line is in sight, three more weeks. I simply want to thank all, from the bottom of my heart, SEC staff, parents and students. There have been and continue to be, stresses and strains. Listening to my colleagues in ISA we are all, staff, parents and students running into days where we have simply ‘had enough’. If it were in my formal remit I would issue a SEC holiday next week, close all screens, turn off phones, get out and smell the flowers (or whatever the 21st century equivalent is!).
For those of you born after the 70/80s the expression when someone was busy or stressed. ‘Stop and smell the flowers …’
If your child or you are feeling that you need time off well take it. The adage, ‘Health is Wealth’ is fundamental to all of us.
We have many protocols in place for opening in September. Rest assured that the team being headed up by Ms. Domenici, which includes parents and teachers will have SEC in excellent shape for welcoming you all back.
Wishing you all the best.
Sincerely,
Mr Nollaig Mac an Bhaird
