Edward’s Thoughts – A Peculiar Event

Edward’s Thoughts – A Peculiar Event

Wednesday 13 May 2020

So still. So quiet. So lonely.

It’s getting much warmer…it must be nearly summer by now. The boys are usually running around chasing each other, water bottles in hand, in the bright sunlight. Hiding round corners, laughing and jumping on one another in the shadows of the old trees on my lawn.

So strange. So unexpected. Where are they?

Do they not love me anymore?

I must tell you about a peculiar thing that happened last night. I’ve been wanting to let someone know. It was quite late. Way past your bedtime, maybe about 11pm or nearly midnight. Very dark, just the blossoms falling from the trees, swirling like snow. There were just a few streaks of moonlight that ran across the pitches and the track. Very peaceful

Then suddenly I heard a noise. I’m sure I heard a noise. It sounded like a muffled cry or a moan.

I couldn’t have imagined it. Surely.

I don’t think it was my old friend Carmel from so many years ago

Then a voice, quite low, quite quiet, but distinct. I’m sure it said, ’Preca……I am Preca….’

I swear I saw a fleeting glimpse of a figure, running swiftly down my corridor and then scurrying across towards the Chapel.

Perhaps it is a boy, at last returned!

But so late at night?

Who can it be?

Can anyone enlighten me? I love a good mystery.

Forever yours,
Edward
