Facing the light

Biology is all about affinity: affinity with all things living. In Year 9 biology students were assigned an investigation to work on at home whereby they had to investigate which conditions support germination. This is one such experiment by Luke Grech who used turnip seeds.  The photo is showing both germination as well as positive phototropism because the shoots are growing/bending towards light. Light is needed for photosynthesis.

Observation of these details helps students not only appreciate cause and effect but also realise that all living things need their own particular criteria to thrive.
