First Day: the world is their oyster

This morning, for staff and students at St Edward’s College, butterflies turned to elephants as the start of the scholastic year dawned. A brilliant white sun shone from a milky blue sky but the true light came from the smiles and shouts of the children as they met again after the summer holidays. Some apprehensive faces too, naturally: new school, new friends. This applies to adults as well as children. Slowly, however, the butterflies flew away and stomachs started to grumble with the normal happy appetites of growing boys.

Headmaster Nollaig Mac an Bhaird was on hand to greet all the students at the gate and later address the older students for assembly. Ms Louise did the same on the lawn with the Junior School pupils.
