Weighty matters

Remember the classic question: which weighs more: a kilo of iron or a kilo of feathers?  The concepts of weight and size are not easy to grasp. Taking them out of the mental sphere and making them real helps in the acquisition of knowledge.

Year 1 boys have been measuring and weighing their way through their numeracy lessons. The students have been predicting and testing out their theories to find out which resource weighs more and which weighs less. The boys all safely had their turn to explore the concept and categorise the items accordingly. Moreover, they discussed why the results were so depending on the materials of the items used.
